Studying to gain the qualifications to work in the patient transport sector is well worth the effort because of the types of jobs you can do once the training has been completed. Unlike Patient Transport Officers, who typically transport non-emergency patients to an from doctors surgeries and hospitals, the role of Ambulance Attendant is more involved and thus requires a higher level knowledge of paramedic practice as well as a more advanced skill set.
At this level, Ambulance Attendants are often required to ride along with Ambulance Paramedics and will be required to assist when life-saving treatment is required. The Diploma of Paramedical Science is the appropriate qualification for Ambulance Attendants.
Ambulance Victoria, an emergency service that prides itself on giving our patients the right care at the right place at the right time, is now seeking casual Ambulance Transport Attendants, based in Bendigo, Loddon Mallee.
The Ambulance Transport Attendants (ATAs) will:
- provide an effective and efficient service in the transport of Non-Emergency pre and post hospital patients between home and medical facilities
- Diploma of Paramedical Science is the appropriate qualification
- assist in achieving service goals and targets relating to Non-Emergency transport
- drive and operate all vehicle types safely and with confidence
- work a roster of 6am and 8pm Monday to Sunday (including public holidays)

Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Applicants must hold a Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance) or equivalent and not less than 400 hours of supervised clinical practice.
- A current Victorian driver licence is also essential.
- Upon commencement with Ambulance Victoria, all successful applicants must be available to attend a three week induction program in South Melbourne, from late January 2018 onwards. The induction will be based around office hours, Monday to Friday for the duration of the program.
- The successful applicant will be required to pass a medical and physical fitness assessment as determined by Ambulance Victoria.
